The award ceremony for the fifth edition of the Antonio Moreno Espejo Journalism Prize was held on 8 February. The winner was Víctor Martínez for his article “La amenaza de la mala reputación” (The threat of bad reputation), published in Actualidad Económica.
The event was attended by the CNMV Chairman, Rodrigo Buenaventura, the Vice-Chair, Montserrat Martínez Parera, the Chairwoman of the Jury and CNMV Commissioner, Helena Viñes, members of Antonio Moreno’s family, and the winner of the award. Other members of the Jury also participated: Ana Martínez Pina, former Vice-Chair of the CNMV and financial regulatory coordinator at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo; Jorge Yzaguirre, Chairman of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts (IEAF) and Antonio Abril, Chairman of the Spanish Universities Social Councils Conference and member of the Governing Board of the Institute of Board Members and Directors (ICA). The audience was limited due to the health measures arising from the pandemic, although it was possible to follow it on the CNMV’s YouTube channel.
The Jury has based its decision on the quality of the article, the relevance of the topic chosen, and the comprehensive analysis carried out on the importance of ethics in good corporate governance in companies, and in general, in the economy. The Jury considers that the award-winning article reflects the fact that these matters are still under financial and economic discussion throughout the world, as well as their impact on companies’ reputation and results.
131 articles published in 38 different media were entered into or selected on a preliminary basis for this year’s call.
The prize is in memory of Antonio Moreno Espejo, the former director of the Institution Authorisation and Registration Department of the CNMV, a position he held for 15 years. He was a person with enormous values and extremely professional, who carried out his work with high ethical standards.
