Last Tuesday, 8 November, a Forum on the advantages of being listed on the stock exchange was held in Barcelona, titled “Opportunities of the Securities Market for Companies in Catalonia”, promoted by the CNMV and BME.
The minister of Economy and Finance of the regional government of Catalonia, Natàlia Mas i Guix, CNMV’s Vice-Chair, Montserrat Martínez Parera, and BME’s Chief Executive Officer, Javier Hernani, spoke during the conference’s main event.
CNMV’s Market General Director, Ángel Benito, started the conference, structured in three panels with different topics to discuss:
- Stock Exchange as an alternative for companies’ funding.
- IPOs processes and obligations of a listed company.
- Growth markets.
The forum had the participation of market infrastructure managers, intermediaries, and listed and non-listed companies, who explained the advantages of the different alternatives offered by the Spanish markets.
The event took place in the Barcelona stock exchange and had the collaboration of the Col·legi d’Economistes de Catalunya, el Cercle d’Economia, Foment del Treball Nacional and Tech Barcelona.

With this initiative, CNMV and BME work to bring the stock market closer to growing Catalonian companies that may require financing over the next few years, and whose needs may be met by the Stock Exchange. It is part of CNMV’s overall objective to promote capital markets as a source of financing for companies. This is the second event of this strategic project, which started with the first Forum to bring the markets closer to Basque Country companies and will conclude with a conference in Madrid.
