Last November 8th, the CNMV celebrated its 35th anniversary with a commemoration event. The debate on the future of financial markets was the focus of the speeches made by the highest authorities of major listed companies, representatives of investors and financial intermediaries, as well as some of the world’s most important market supervisory authorities.
The event started by viewing a video that looks back on some of the institution’s key moments.
The Chairman of the CNMV, Rodrigo Buenaventura, gave the opening speech. Carlos Franganillo, Director of News Services for channel “Tele 5” hosted the first part of the event. Jean-Paul Servais, Chairman of IOSCO (International Organisation of Securities Commissions) and Eloísa del Pino, CSIC Chair (Spanish National Research Council) also participated in the inauguration.
The first panel, titled “Listed companies: the future of securities markets in financing for companies”, in which Carlos Franganillo was also the moderator, María Dolores Dancausa, Chairwoman of Bankinter, Oscar García Maceiras, CEO of Inditex, Marc Puig, Chairman of Puig, and Beatriz Corredor, Chairwoman of Redeia, participated giving their inputs.

The investor panel was coordinated by the Deputy Director of ABC, Yolanda Gómez. The panel was made up by Ángel Martínez-Aldama, Chair of Inverco, Javier Hernani, CEO of BME, Lola Solana, Chairwoman of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts, and Patricia Suárez, Chairwoman of the Association of Financial Users (ASUFIN).

There was also an international panel during the event. Barney Jopson, correspondent for the Financial Times, moderated the panel on the role of regulators in a global securities market. The debate was led by Rostin Behnam, Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC – United States), Shigeru Ariizumi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Financial Services Agency (FSA – Japan), Mohamed Farid Saleh, Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA – Egypt), Nezha Hayat, Chair of the Autorité Marocaine du Marché des Capitaux (AMMC – Morocco) and Montserrat Martínez Parera, Vice Chair of the CNMV.

The event was closed by the Chair of ESMA (European Securities and Markets Authority), Verena Ross, and a video message of the Spanish Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Affairs, Carlos Cuerpo Caballero.
A large number of people attended the event, including numerous individuals that held positions of responsibility throughout the organisation’s history.
