The CNMV has hosted, another year, the award ceremony of the 8th edition of the 2024 Antonio Moreno Espejo Journalism Award, granted this year to Jordi Fábrega for his story titled “Normas sobre criptoactivos, se acabó la ley de la selva” (“Crypto-asset regulations, no more law of the jungle”) broadcasted in Cadena SER’s programme Hora 25 and its platform Ser Podcast.

Attending the ceremony was the CNMV Chair, Carlos San Basilio, its Vice-Chair, Paloma Marín, who this year chaired the jury, along with Antonio Moreno’s family and the winner of the award. Other members of the Jury also participated: Mirentxu del Valle, Chair of the Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies (UNESPA); Domingo García Coto, Director of the Spanish Stock Exchanges and Markets (BME) Research Department; and María Gutiérrez Urtiaga, Economics professor at Carlos III University of Madrid.

The Jury highlighted that the award-winning work addresses one of the most relevant issues in the financial markets, such as the entry into force of the new European regulation on crypto-assets, in an entertaining, rigorous and informative way. The Jury also mentioned the use of different sources to explain complex processes such as European legislative procedures. Moreover, the Jury appreciated that the piece breaks down a new product for investors and markets. They also highlighted the efforts of the author and the general media towards the dissemination of such a relevant issue for investor protection.

The award was created in memory of Antonio Moreno Espejo, who served as director of the CNMV’s Institution Authorisation and Registration Department for 15 years, and who was someone with great values and professionalism, who carried out his work with a high sense of ethics.

The initiative was created to highlight journalistic pieces that have stood out for their promotion of integrity and transparency in the securities market, as well as the protection of investors’ interests, these being values that guide CNMV’s actions and which it must promote.
