Carlos San Basilio, CNMV Chair, participated in the 27th Annual Meeting of the Ibero-American Securities Market Institute (IIMV), which was held last week in Santo Domingo.

During his speech, the Chair stated that “in addition to investor protection and financial stability, regulation must pursue two further objectives: competitiveness and ensuring that markets contribute to economic growth.”

As he went on to explain, “this strategy is based on three key pillars:  simplification, integration and innovation.”

The 27th Annual Meeting of IIMV Council of Authorities provided a forum for discussing the shared challenges and opportunities that the financial sector faces across Ibero-America. Hosted by the Superintendency of the Securities Market of the Dominican Republic (SIMVRDO), in collaboration with the IIMV, the event explored key ways to continue strengthening the supervision, cooperation and development of Ibero-American securities markets. Authorities from Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay came together to share their experiences and best practices for improving cooperation between supervisors and fostering more transparent, resilient and inclusive markets.

During the talks, authorities reaffirmed their joint commitment to continue promoting increasingly more efficient regulations that can keep pace with the challenges posed by rapidly evolving markets, respond to technological advances and adapt to the changing dynamics of the financial system.
