The Financial Education Day was held last Monday, 3 October, within the framework of the Financial Education Plan promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the CNMV and the Bank of Spain. The main event was hosted this year by the CNMV headquarters in Barcelona and had the participation of the highest representatives responsible for the bodies and institutions involved.
Financial Education Day aims both to raise awareness on the importance of financial education and to improve the financial literacy of people. This year, the theme for all the events was “Education for Safer Finance”, the aim being to raise financial culture among citizens to afford them the knowledge necessary to face financial fraud, which has been increasing in the past few years.
The final of the Financial Literacy Contest took place at main event in Barcelona, presented by journalist Anna Boadas, with the ceremony conferring the 2022 Finances for All awards for Financial Education, together with the 2020 awards since these could not be handed over in person that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A debate was included in which the authorities put forward the priorities of their actions and highlighted the importance of the measures aiming to fight against financial fraud within the new Action Plan against Financial Fraud (PAFF), while also to encourage financial education, among other projects.
New audiovisual educational material on fraud prevention was used, such as a reel by Nachter and videos in which experts of the National Police provide advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of such fraud.
In addition, there were also speeches by:
- The Chairman of the CNMV, Rodrigo Buenaventura;
- The Governor of the Bank of Spain, Pablo Hernández de Cos;
- The Secretary of State for the Economy and Business Support, Gonzalo García Andrés;
- The Vice-Chair of the CNMV, Montserrat Martínez Parera;
- The General Secretary for Consumption and Gambling, Rafael Escudero Alday.
- The General Secretary for Educational Planning and Management, María del Ángel Muñoz.
