The award ceremony for the fourth edition of the Antonio Moreno Espejo Journalism Award was held on Thursday, 11 February. The winner was Miguel A. García Vega for his article “La economía mutará tras el virus” (The economy will mutate after the virus), published in the newspaper El País.
The event was presided over by the CNMV Chairman, Rodrigo Buenaventura, and was attended by the Vice-Chair, Montserrat Martínez Parera, the Chairman of the Jury and CNMV Commissioner, Angel Benito, members of Antonio Moreno’s family, and the winner of the award. Other members of the Jury also participated: Lourdes Centeno, former Vice-Chair of the CNMV, Corporate Governance partner at EY; Antonio del Campo, Chairman of the Institute of Compliance Officers; and Ana Isabel Fernández, Director of Cunef. The audience was limited due to the health measures arising from the pandemic, although it was possible to follow it on the CNMV’s YouTube channel.
The Jury based its decision on the quality of the article, the ability to anticipate trends and their impact on the economy and financial markets (it was published in April 2020), as well as the in-depth way in which it analyses the potential effect that the pandemic could have on the economy worldwide, and its impact on habits and behaviour, which could help investors to form an opinion on the financial markets affected by this situation.
Furthermore, it highlighted the extent of the sources consulted and the correct selection of the topics considered in a context that is so unpredictable and unknown to date.
117 articles published in 28 different media were entered into or selected on a preliminary basis for this year’s call.
