The CNMV has hosted, another year, the award ceremony of the 7th edition of the 2023 Antonio Moreno Espejo Journalism Award, granted this year to Cecilia Sánchez Prieto for her article “How will Artificial Intelligence contribute to the asset management industry over the next five years?” (¿Cómo contribuirá la inteligencia artificial a la transformación de la industria de gestión de activos en el próximo lustro?), published in Funds Society. 

The event was attended by the CNMV Chairman, Rodrigo Buenaventura, the Vice-Chair, Montserrat Martínez Parera, the Chairwoman of the Jury and CNMV Commissioner, Dolores Beato, members of Antonio Moreno’s family, and the winner of the award. Other members of the Jury also participated: Juan José Dolado, Economics Professor at Carlos III university; Juan Prieto, General Director of Corporance Asesores de Voto (Voting Advisors), and Patricia Suárez, Chairwoman of the Association of Financial Users (ASUFIN).

The Jury highlighted, in addition to its quality, that the article addresses one of the most current and relevant issues with a significant possible impact on the economy and financial markets. The final decision brings attention to the extent of sources consulted by the author and her ability to anticipate the consequences that the introduction of artificial intelligence may have on a wide range of agents, products and processes in financial markets. 

The award is given in memory of Antonio Moreno Espejo, the former director of the Institution Authorisation and Registration Department of the CNMV for 15 years, and a person of great values and professionalism, who carried out his work with a high sense of ethics.

The initiative was created to highlight journalistic pieces that have stood out for their promotion of integrity and transparency in the securities market, as well as the protection of investors’ interests, these being values that guide CNMV’s actions and which it must promote.
