The CNMV has once again hosted the award ceremony for the 9th edition of the 2025 Antonio Moreno Espejo Journalism Award, granted this year to the programme Salvados for its report on boiler rooms called Esto es una estafa (This is a scam), broadcast on La Sexta.
The ceremony was attended by Carlos San Basilio, CNMV Chairman, who also served as Chair of the Jury for this edition; as well as members of Antonio Moreno’s family, in addition to Fernando González “Gonzo”, director and host of Salvados; Carlos Fernández Recio, Deputy Director of Programmes at Atresmedia Audiovisual; together with other representatives of the programme, Atresmedia, and Producciones del Barrio.
Other members of the Jury also participated in the event: Montserrat Martínez Parera, Adviser to the Governor of the Bank of Spain and former CNMV Vice-Chair, Gloria Martínez-Picazo, BME Investor Ombudswoman and senior lawyer specialised in corporate governance, and Lucas Osorio, Chair of Emisores Españoles and Co-Managing Partner at MO Estudio Legal.
The Jury highlighted that the award-winning report provides new data and perspectives on financial fraud and unauthorised financial entities, offering distinctive testimonies and insights as regards this phenomenon. In addition to its quality and thoroughness, the Jury emphasised that the format conveys valuable information in an engaging and accessible manner, underpinned by valuable testimonies that help investors identify such fraudulent practices and avoid falling victim to them.
The Jury further underscored the programme’s ability to draw attention to a key issue that can impact anyone and that constitutes a matter of concern for the financial sector as a whole.
The award is granted in memory of Antonio Moreno Espejo, who served for 15 years as Director of the CNMV’s Department for the Authorisation and Registration of Entities. He is remembered as a person of strong principles and outstanding professionalism, who carried out his duties with a high degree of ethical commitment.
The initiative was established to recognise journalistic works that promote the integrity and transparency of the securities market, as well as the protection of investors’ interests, principles that underpin the CNMV’s actions.
